Julian Ferchow was born in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany. After his apprenticeship as industrial mechanic, he studied mechanical engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In his studies, his focus was product development and engineering design. During his internship, he developed and tested the hardware of a mechatronic ABS-System for E-Scooters at Bosch in Suzhou (China). In his Master’s thesis he then investigated and improved the fastening quality of a battery driven nailing tool at Hilti in Liechtenstein.
In his doctorate, Julian is studying design for additive manufacturing (AM) and the strategies to select suitable components for an AM redesign to generate a higher value for consumer. Further, his interest is to transfer the knowledge about design for AM from the academic environment to industry in the form of Workshops.
